Granola and your company’s data

By David Michaelson, MS Last checked October 23, 2026

The short answer

Granola says it trains on anonymized meeting data unless you opt out, except on Enterprise, where training is off by default; it keeps notes and transcripts until you delete them or set auto-deletion.

Safer setup: Have each person on a Business plan turn off “Use my data to improve models for everyone,” set a transcript auto-deletion period, and tell people before Granola transcribes.

Plan by plan

Each answer comes from Granola’s own policy or help pages, with the link and the date we read it. Setting names are quoted exactly as Granola writes them.

Granola: what happens to your data, by plan

Trains on your data by default?

Yes, unless you opt out. Granola says it trains on your anonymized data, and each user can turn this off. Outside AI providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic may not train on your data.

No, by default. Granola says Enterprise users have model training turned off by default, and admins can opt the whole organization out.

How long your data is kept

Until you delete them. Granola keeps notes and transcripts indefinitely unless you set an auto-deletion period for transcripts. It does not keep meeting audio after transcription.

Under a workspace-wide retention policy that Enterprise customers arrange with Granola, rather than a setting in the app.

Who can see it

Only you, until you share. Granola says notes are private by default, no one in your workspace can see them unless you share them, and admins cannot view your private notes.

Safer setup, step by step

  1. In Granola, go to Settings, then Preferences, then Data & sharing, and turn off “Use my data to improve models for everyone.” On Business plans, each user must do this. Source: docs.granola.ai for this step
  2. Set an auto-deletion period for transcripts in your settings so they are not kept indefinitely. A one-week cooldown applies before it takes effect. Source: docs.granola.ai for this step
  3. Keep notes private unless you choose to share them. Granola says notes are private by default and admins cannot see them. Source: docs.granola.ai for this step

What to write in your policy

Staff use Granola only with model training turned off and a transcript auto-deletion period set. Everyone on a call is told before Granola transcribes.
